  1. Discs don’t get more overstable than the Innova Star XCaliber. And now it’s the signature disc of 2017 US Champ Nate Sexton, who often relies on the disc for clutch forehand distance drives. More about the XCaliber: The XCaliber has the overstability to let the biggest arms throw with full power. Great disc for sidearm throwers and those with lots of power. Can handle headwinds and throws with off axis torque. Definitely not designed for beginning players. Flight Numbers: 12 / 5 / 0 / 4 More about Sexton’s 2017 USDGC Victory: After the event, Nate said Hole 13 during the final round was pivotal for him. After placing his backhand drive too far to the fairway’s left side, he rolled the dice with his second shot, a forehand that ripped through the trouble-laden fairway and landed safe - setting him up for a birdie. He said it was, “probably the riskiest shot I took the whole round.” After that he knew that if he just executed the rest of the holes according to his plan, he would be very hard to catch. Sexton ended up winning the event by five strokes over Ricky Wysocki.

  3. An excellent stable to slightly overstable fairway driver, the Star Savant provides an option similar to the Thunderbird with extra glide and less fade. For players throwing an Eagle as a primary driver and wanting a disc that can take more speed and power—and offer more distance—they should look to the Savant. For Wraith lovers, the Savant has a similar flight when thrown with less power. Add the Star plastic durability and comfortable grip and the Star Savant is a great fairway driver for predictable short drives.

  4. Players have asked for a forehand-specific approach disc and we’ve responded. Meet the Innova Rat. It’s a low-profile, beadless mid-range that flies fast out of the hand. Add the flat top and the Rat could be the most comfortable sidearm approach disc around. Rip it forehand and it’ll fly straight with a predictable fade at the tail end. The backhand grip feels just as good with a flight just as predictable. Bonus: It’s a good option for headwind approach shots.

  27. You don’t have to be a beast to throw the Innova Animal accurately. Just grab a hold of the meaty rim complete with Thumtrac® grip and let er’ rip. No need to be frightened. This Animal is Gentle: You’ll be surprised how easy this putt and approach disc is to tame. Likened to a beat-in Rhyno, the Animal can achieve a straight flight with a mild hyzer release and exhibits a moderate turn when thrown flat. Big turnovers are a lot of fun with this disc and is one of the Animal’s specialties. Like many land animals, this one favors the ground. And with very little glide, it seems to gravitate towards the earth as soon as its released. Great for: 200–300-foot approaches that dependably dump at the flight’s end. Those interested in a more user-friendly version of the overstable Rhyno. Windy day putter and putts inside the circle.

  31. The Innova AviarX3 is the most overstable disc in the Aviar family tree and it’s the go-to approach disc for power player and forehand specialist Jeremy “Big Jerm” Koling. More about the AviarX3 in Big Jerm’s Words: “The AviarX3 is the disc I rely upon most in my bag. I use it for essentially every forehand and backhand approach inside 300 feet,” said Koling. He also says it’s great for: Out-of-position rescue shots Point and shoot flick rollers Stable flexing anhyzers Ultra-long panning overhead throws Disc Feel: “The flat flight plate provides a nice hand feel but it also eliminates unnecessary glide. This allows me to be more aggressive with my approaches while ultimately getting more bullseyes,” said Koling. A Mid Range in Putt & Approach Clothing: Don’t forget to use this beefy disc for moderate length drives and for headwind approaches. 2016 US Champ: One word best describes Jeremy Koling’s performance during the 2016 USDGC and that is: “Solid.” Solid putting Solid accuracy off the tee Solid mental game that minimized mistakes With a bullet proof performance like that, it’s no wonder Koling earned the biggest win of his career.
